It is also known as straight stitch .As the name suggests a running stitch runs through the fabric or material. They move in the horizontal direction where multiple stitches can be taken on the needle before drawing out the thread. It is the fundamental stitch in hand-sewing and embroidery, on which all other forms of sewing are based. The stitch is toiled by passing the needle in and out of the fabric at an orderly distance.

Chain stitch is an ancient craft. It is a sewing and embroidery technique in which a series of looped stitches form a chain-like pattern. Chain stitches can form the curved lines and form flowing; therefore it is used in many surface embroidery designs and also used in creating tambour lace, needle-lace, crochet etc.

It is a form of sewing and a well like form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled, raster-like pattern are used to fashion a concept of design.
